Poster issued as part of the "Hands Off Assata" campaign, which began with the 1998 passage in the U.S. House of Representatives of House Resolution 254, calling on the Cuban government to extradite Assata Shakur. The campaign, composed of a loose group of organizations and activists who argued that Shakur was innocent of the 1973 murder of New Jersey State Trooper Werner Foerster, encouraged supporters to organize petition signings, write their representatives, post flyers and posters, and host showings of "Eyes of the Rainbow," the 1997 film documentary about Shakur. In 2005, the "Hands Off Assata" campaign was reignited by the decision of the U.S. Department of Justice and the state of New Jersey's announcement of $1 million bounty for Shakur's capture inside Cuba and return to the U.S. This would later be increased to a $2 million bounty in 2017, under the Trump Administration.
