B&w illustrations from engravings, including six tipped in and folded ones and three portrait plates (Erasmus, Holbein the Younger, and Holbein the Elder). Text in Latin. Light bumping and wear to spine ends and corners; boards lightly stained and soiled; bookseller description pasted to front pastedown; ownership markings in ink to front free endpaper; light occasional marginal soiling; a few leaves creased diagonally, affecting legibility of one page. Pencil marginalia throughout, primarily providing captions to illustrations. Good.

A monumental work of Renaissance satire, and the first edition to include Holbein's illustrations of the many types of fools lampooned here by Erasmus.
