Decorative paper-covered boards backed in red cloth with a grey spine label, housed in a slipcase with grey paper-covered sides and back and a gold cloth ends. Faint, minor soiling and small scuff mark to slipcase, else fine. Fine in Very Good Slipcase.

A rare artist's book featuring Toni Morrison's first and only published verse, illustrated with five silhouettes by Kara Walker created in response to the poems. As Stephani Li notes in "Five Poems: The Gospel According to Toni Morrison" (Callaloo, Vol. 34, No. 3, Summer 2011), "[t]he partnership between Morrison and Walker is both remarkable and unprecedented. Although Walker has cited Morrison as a key influence on her artistic development and critics have begun to analyze intersections in their work, Five Poems is the first demonstration of collaboration between two of the most important living [sic] African American artists."

Uncommon in commerce.
