Part of Low's Authorised and Illustrated Editions of Jules Verne's Works, priced at one shilling on the front cover. Set during the American Civil War, the novella features James Playfair, a British merchant who runs the blockade at Charleston to trade military supplies for cotton, and again to rescue a Union prisoner. It was first published in French as Les forceurs de blocus in 1865, and translated into English in 1874.
