Memorial broadside for Audre Lorde, illustrated with a photographic image of her taken at the groundbreaking conference, “I Am Your Sister: Forging Global Connections Across Differences. A Celebratory Conference Honoring Audre Lorde and Her Work,” held in Boston from October 5-8, 1990. Over 1200 participants from 23 nations attended the conference at Tremont Temple (Friday and Saturday) and MIT (Sunday), at which they not only honored Lorde with ceremonies, poems, speeches, music and other performance art, but sought to put her words into practice. The full text is a quote from Lorde, and reads, “When I dare to be powerful – to use my strength in the service of my vision, then it becomes less and less important whether I am afraid.”
