New York: The Eulenspiegel Society, (n. d.), but 1973. 16 x 11-1/2 inches. 20pp. Tabloid-format newspaper, printed in black on white stock. Occasional b&w illustrations. Center fold line; toning to edges and rear fold line; slight staining to last page. Very Good.

First issue of this influential BDSM magazine for both gay and straight men and women, published by The Eulenspiegel Society, a group which "undoubtedly laid the foundations for political SM" (The Ashgate Research Companion to Lesbian and Gay Activism). The Eulenspiegel Soceity modeled itself on the ongoing liberation movements of its time, arguing that "in the pursuit of sexual happiness, the only limits or boundaries -- civil, moral or religious -- should be when the rights of one individual overlap, intrude on or deny those of another" (p. 1). One of the paper's stated goals, besides communicating with fellow practitioners and the general public about sexual variations and removing the stigma of "perversion" associated with them, was "to fight for the rights of mutually agreeable participants to indulge in their pursuit of sexual happiness in ANY WAY they see fit, regardless of sex, age or method. While our approach will heavily emphasize the S/M or Dominant/Submissive aspect of sex, all variations are welcomed (and not just by lip service)."

Articles in this issue explain the purpose of the Society and the name of the paper, examine what sexual liberation means for sexual minorities, rebut critiques of S/M, and offer tips on deep sex. Also included are poems, songs, "S&M Astrology", and more.

Uncommon. OCLC locates eight holdings of this issue.
