Baseball Photographer Trading Cards. [Incomplete Set].

Regular price $500.00 $0.00

[Santa Cruz, California]: Mike Mandell, (1975). Total of 39 photographer cards (including one duplicate) + checklist card. 3-1/2 x 2-1/2 inches. White stock printed with b&w photographic image of the photographer on recto and details about photographer printed in black to verso. Occasional very minor wear to cards, but overall clean, bright and sharp. Near Fine.

Incomplete set of 39 of 135 cards (134 photographers + checklist card), plus one duplicate card of Jim Dow (no. 44 of the set). The set as a whole is ingeniously conceived, creating "baseball cards" of well-known photographers photographed in various baseball poses -- holding mitts, bats, etc., wearing baseball hats and/or other baseball equipment -- with details about each photographer's height, weight, camera preferences, and more on the verso of the cards. In many cases, the photographs are cheekily incongruous with their intent, with the photographers shown inside their houses, or while wearing a dress, and so on.

Photographers included are: Lee Witkin, Arthur Siegel, Harry Callahan, Peter Gowland, Grace Mayer, Mike Mandel, Harold Allen, Laura Gilpin, Anne Tucker, Phil Perkis, Michael Simon, Les Krims, Joyce Neimanas, Al Coleman, Burk Uzzle, Jim Dow, Dave Freund, C. Jansen, Bob Cumming, John Benson, Paige Pinnell, Jacob Deschin, Gus Kayafas, Timo Pajunen, Andy Anderson, Art Sinsabaugh, Beaumont Newhall, John Schulze, Lee Rice, Fred Sommer, Emmet Gowin, Bunny Yeager, Doug Prince, Eileen Cowin, Bill Eggleston, Len Gittleman, Bob Fichter and Mike Bishop.

Complete sets are rare, but all cards are uncommon.
