Rocky Mountain Wild Flowers. [Cover title]. [with] Sample Sheet A, Rocky Mountain Wild Flowers. [Drop title].
[Denver]: [W. H. Lawrence & Co.], 1893. 12.5 x 14 cm. pp. + wrappers. Stiff cardstock wrappers with scalloped edges, bound with a yellow cord; printed card (5 x 8 cm) on similarly heavy stock with a hole punched in it attached to the binding cord, reading "World's Columbian Exposition, Chicago, 1893". Accompanied by Sample Sheet A (27 x 10 cm.), printed in black on white stock to recto only. Light toning and wear to wrappers; fraying to cord ends; small nick to foot of last leaf; part of Indian pink petals possibly missing. Old fold lines and small tear to Sample Sheet. Very Good.
Sample book issued for the 1893 Columbian Exposition, containing five pressed wildflowers -- an aster, gentian, umbrella plant, Indian pink, and anemone -- each named in print in the lower corner. With this is a sample sheet listing numerous kinds of flowers and where to gather them, including the railroad lines to take prospective flower hunters to these locations.
This appears to be an abbreviated version of the book with the same title issued by W. H. Lawrence & Co. in 1890, which, according to OCLC, is by Patience Stapleton and contains 6 leaves and 20 doubled leaves. Nevertheless, OCLC provides no holdings for that title, and no listing at all for this one.
