Milano: Figli di Angelo Bietti; Antonio Bietti & Company; Cesare Cioffi; N. Tommasi, 1891 - 1906. 15.5 x 10 cm. Varying paginations, most around 80pp. Color illustrated wrappers. Light chipping and loss to most spines; occasional light toning and wear; some roughly opened leaves. Short tears/ minor chipping to wrappers of a few volumes; one volume (Linda di Chamounix) heavily chipped to spine, with moderate loss to lower edge and corner of both wrappers. Good to Very Good overall.

A representative collection of 20 turn-of-the-century Italian "romanzi popolari", all with colorful graphic covers, ranging from adaptations of Shakespeare and Benvenuto Cellini to Antonio Boggia, a novella about Italy's first serial killer. At least some of these books were likely issued for the wave of migrants to the Americas that made up the Italian diaspora of 1880-1924, given the dual publisher's location of Milan and Buenos Aires of the Bietti firms. Almost all are scarce in commerce, particularly in these early editions.
