Gargoyle Corp. Bulletin No. #10.
Bloomfield, New Jersey: Gargoyle Corp., (n. d.). Circa 1955. Bifolium printed in blue to outer pages and black to inner. Profusely illustrated. Old fold lines, minor wear. Very Good.
Promotional brochure for the "Bizarre Dress Edition" of erotic photographs, books and graphics offered here by Gargoyle Corp. These primarily feature women in BDSM attire, with hip-high stiletto boots and whips, black leather bras, dresses and skirts, etc., as well as more fetish-themed images of scantily clad women in high heeled shoes and boots. Despite frequently calling such attire "bizarre" throughout the brochure, little attempt is made to hide the BDSM nature of the items, and terms related to domination and submission crop up regularly.
It's unclear how long Gargoyle Corp. operated, although it seems clear that it did so in several locations around New Jersey. In 1958, the company -- and in particular Frank Silver, the owner -- was charged with selling obscene material through the mail in Toms River, New Jersey, and in 1959 the company was again mentioned as selling "the symbolistic and sadistic type of printed matter" during Congressional hearings before the Committee on Post Office and Civil Service.
