The Furies. Lesbian / Feminist Monthly. January 1972. Volume 1, No. 1.
Washington, D. C.: Furies Collective, 1972. 16-3/4" x 11-1/2". Newsprint printed in black with occasional b/w illustrations and advertisements for other lesbian periodicals. Folded in half; toned; light crease to upper corner.
The seminal newspaper of this influential, if short-lived, lesbian separatist collective based in Washington, D. C., which vowed in its first issue that "for every woman who has ever been raped, physically, economically, psychologically, we take the name of the FURIES, Goddesses of Vengeance and protectors of women." Members of the group included Ginny Berson, Helaine Harris, Susan Hathaway, Nancy Myron, Tasha Peterson, Lee Schwing, Jennifer Woodul, Charlotte Bunch, Rita Mae Brown, Joan Biren, Susan Baker, Sharon Deevy, Coletta Reid and Ann Silver, several of whom continued to make important contributions to the gay rights and women's rights movements long after the collective disbanded in the spring of 1972.
Uncommon in the trade.
