Regular price $65.00 $0.00

New York: (n. p.), 1894. 6" x 4". 47, [1] pp, plus frontis portrait of Dr. Kahler with tissue guard. Green decorative cloth stamped in gilt and black, decorative endpapers, b/w intratextual illustrations plus a few plates. Light wear to extremities, with small indentation to spine; hinges cracked and likely repaired with paste by a previous owner; front endpaper and frontispiece repaired at hinge with clear tape. Interior otherwise quite clean and sound.

Promotional book for Dr. P. Kahler & Sons, Surgeon-Chiropodists, and their line of Kahler Broad-Soled Shoes and Boots -- developed, of course, because "[a]fter I had almost restored the foot to a healthy condition, it would happen that the improperly made shoes which they persisted in wearing would bring back the original difficulty, or something as bad or worse" (21).

Kahler's claim to fame seems to be that he made a pair of shoes on request to fit Abraham Lincoln's big feet, an illustration of the pair of which is included in the book. Also included are an illustrated introduction to various foot ailments, a list of references, and information for those wishing to order a pair of Kahler's shoes. As their motto states, "Tis a Feat to Fit Feet".
