Rochester, N.Y.: Alfred Wright Perfumer, Office and Laboratory, (n. d.). Circa 1903. 6-3/4" x 5". 18, [2, blank] pp. Pale tan-green wrappers printed in black and saddle-stitched; b/w illustrations with tipped in American Beauty label. Light wear and soiling to wrappers, aged to tan from a pale mint green. Ink marginalia by someone from the company scattered throughout, presumably for the benefit of a particular customer as it amends the terms, notes that another label style is available for one perfume, and corrects bottle sizes in a few instances. Interior otherwise clean and bright. Very Good.

Trade catalogue from the heyday of the perfume industry in Rochester, which we date based on the scent Anne Boleyn, reputed to have entered the market in 1903. Other scents include American Beauty, Maud Muller, Mary Stuart, Jockey Club, White Heliotrope and others. Alfred Wright Perfumery began production in Rochester in 1866, and was bought by William R. Warner & Co. in 1910.

"From the beginning, we have followed the European notion as to fineness and the American notion as to strength and lasting. Our perfumes excel European on their own ground ... and we give no heed to what American 'perfumers' do. When the latter seek strength with such materials as they are accustomed to use, they get rankness." (p 1)

Scarce. We find no records of this or any other Alfred Wright Perfumer catalogue in OCLC.
