Joy to UC: Free Speech Carols
[Berkeley, California]: Dustin Mark Miller, 1964. 7-1/8" x 7". 45 rpm record housed inside the original white cardboard sleeve with b&w artwork by Stevie Lipney, mimeographed lyrics sheet (folded) laid in. Sleeve slightly stained/worn and starting to split at top and side edges; "packed by Bookie" written in ink on rear label. Record untested, but appears to be in fine condition. Good+.
A series of Christmas carol parodies in the spirit of the Free Speech Movement, with titles like "We Three Deans," "Hail to IBM," "God Rest Ye Free Speech," and "Come All Ye Mindless," among others. Contributors include Joe La Penta, Barry Jablon, Ken Sanderson, and Dustin Mark Miller, whose brainchild the project was. The record was issued on December 7, 1964, immediately following a peaceful protest at Sproul Hall on the University of California, Berkeley campus on December 3-4, and the mass arrest of over 800 people that resulted from it.
