J. N. Postag Candies and Ice Cream. [Trade Cards].
San Francisco: J. N. Postag, (n. d.). Circa 1890. 11 x 8 cm. Two trade cards printed in color on white stock, depicting a young woman school graduate holding a book and reading it, respectively. Removed from a scrapbook, with the scrapbook paper affixed to versos. Minor wear to edges; minor soiling to one card. Very Good.
Trade cards for a candy shop in San Francisco's Mission District, which appears to have lasted from about 1883 - 1892. Presumably the cards were issued to drum up business for graduation parties, possibly to coincide with the graduation of Mission High School's first class in 1891. Mission High is the oldest comprehensive public school in San Francisco, and was the first of its kind west of the Rockies.
